To Install any of these Vista Gadgets:
1. Download from any link, a zipped folder to anywhere on your computer and double-click it to see the folder inside -
If you see a folder from the unzipped file, Proceed to step 2a..
If you do not see a folder but just files, Proceed to step 2b.
2. Install the files:
2a. : Drag the folder from the uncompressed zip to your Vista Windows Sidebar gadgets folder.
It's located at
c:\users\xxxx\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Sidebar\Gadgets\ (where xxxx is your user name)
OR
c:\Program Files\Windows Sidebar\Gadgets\
2b. If you don't see a folder:
Winzip often opens a primary folder within a compressed file vs. showing the primary folder first.
Go to one of the locations in 2a.(above) and in either Gadgets folder, create a new folder, naming it for your gadget (like deer resistant.gadget) so you have established a target path like
c:\users\xxxx\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Sidebar\Deer_Resistant.gadget
OR
c:\Program Files\Windows Sidebar\Gadgets\Deer_Resistant.gadget
and then drag the files from the uncompressed zip file above to this new folder.
3. That's all. To load it, from your sidebar, either:
Click the "+" tab on the top of your sidebar folder
or
Right click on your Vista sidebar in an empty space and select "Add Gadgets"
... to see your gadgets. The folder you moved in step 2 to either sidebar folder, will now show as a new gadget.
Drag the widget you added from step 2 (now in your Vista Sidebar menu of installable icons in front of you) to your desktop or anchor it to your sidebar
